The idea of our project was not only to dance to music, but also to make music through dancing. We want to make the expression of the dance audible and thus create a closer connection between dance and music. Music should be influenced in different facets through a dance performance.
This project was created in the "Physical Interfaces" course with the framework theme of dance and swimming noodles. I worked in a team with Diyar Bozoglu. I was responsible for code, setting up the Arduino sensors, music/beat, FL Studio. Bozoglu took care of the wiring/soldering of the cables, positioning of the swimming noodles, video and dance performance.
Technically, we used different sensors (pressure sensors on the feet, tilt angle of the upper body, bending of the knee...) and sent these values wirelessly to the computer. Here the values were read out, converted etc. and then sent to a DAW where they were transferred to musical notes (MIDI), for example, or simply used to determine how much distortion filter was on the samples used.
